Yes! Many do not realize the effects that household cleaners have on their health. Also one of the first things that I change in our home and surprise...my husband wasn't as stuffy in the mornings. I have made my own all purpose scrub for years. baking soda, castille soap, a little water, a little vinegar. And if you want you can add some essential oils. This works great for everything, countertops, sinks, toilets, showers...

It’s so hard to believe all those years that I spent coughing and covering my nose while cleaning wasn’t enough for me to wonder if this was good for my health 😔 love your scrub idea. I’m going to have to try it!

It’s an easy recipe. 1-2/3 cup baking soda and add 1/2 cup Castile soap. Mix then add 1/2 cup of distilled water. Mix and then add 2 tbsps of vinegar. 10-15 drops of your favourite essential oil if you want.

Yesss! We switched to a vinegar/water solution years ago for the same reason and use it in spray bottles to clean pretty much everything. I add a few drops of peppermint oil to take care of the vinegar scent though. :D

I like to add pine essential oil to my vinegar solution because the combination of vinegar/water/pine oil smells so good! Also by making vinegar/water/lemongrass and tea tree oils, you have made your own disinfectant!

I have used castile soap as a hair shampoo for quite a while now. My hair feels so much better than having the chemicals building up on my scalp and absorbing through my skin. I use baking soda as laundry soap and white vinegar as a softener. I was becoming sensitive to the scents in the soaps and softeners. I've also been researching essential oils. I have found that essential oils are volatile organic compounds by the way the plants are processed. It can take up to 100 lbs of a plant to produce a single 1/2 ounce bottle of essential oil. These VOCs are produced by steam distillation. Turpentine, an extremely volatile chemical, is made from trees. How many essentials oils have directions not take internally? Your skin absorbs any chemicals. You breathe the fumes from room diffusers. Shouldn't that get a person thinking? The industry generated $27 billion in 2022 alone. So I have taken essential oils out of my house so that my body is not affected by these dangerous chemicals any longer.

I also use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Baking soda works really well on the bathtub. :-D

One combination I make is castile soap, vinegar, lemon peels (strain these out to put liquid in a spray bottle). Great for that lemony-clean smell in the kitchen.

We were already slowly making our way out of the toxic lifestyle we'd been born and raised in when our son was diagnosed with leukemia. Once that happened it launched me into completing the toxic purge. It is amazing how many chemicals are all around us and we don't even think about them... food, cleaners, detergent, deodorant, perfume/ cologne, shampoo/ conditioner, hair spray/ mousse, soaps, bug spray, sunscreen! The list is extensive!! I am so thankful women like you are sharing their journey and this wisdom to help others. Kudos.
